Credit Card – It pays to pay with your credit card.

I got a call from ABN Bank today, marketing their Platinum Master card. When I receive such calls, usually I would just tell them politely that I do not need any new card and then give them some excuses to hang up the phone. Today, I didn’t hang up; the offer was too good to be true. They offer free lifetime membership, 60 days interest free, $150 welcome gifts and list goes on. In the end, after listening to all her ‘sweet sell talk’, I got her to send me an application form.

Nowadays, credit cards are loaded with freebies, free membership, cash rebate, merchandise discounts, petrol/gas discounts and many more. Hence you actually spend less as compare to using cash.

I always pay my credit cards bill on time, hence no roll-over debt with high interest! I pay all my expenses and monthly bills (telephone bill, cable vision bill etc) with credit card and every 3 months I would received about $100 dollars cash rebate. That’s saving!

Why should I use cash or debit card when credit card give me more saving? My credit card gives me 0.5% cash rebate for total amount spent and 5% cash rebate for petrol? On top of that, its 35 days interest fee. Good deal!

Although credit cards are useful financial tools and like any tool, they need to be carefully managed. Learning to use a credit card responsibly is an important step in developing financial common sense.

My hosting account with HostGator is finally setup!

My adsense account is also approved! What a day!

Everything seemed smooth today. I am impressed with their 24/7 online chat support and instantaneous email response. The reason why I choose them as my hosting service provider is because they offer unlimited domains hosting @ $9.90 per month. In other words, if Iwere to host 10 domains, cost per site is virtually less than a dollar. That a lot of saving!

I do not have much knowledge about HTML and web design hence working "cPanel" is going to be very challenging. I am using FrontPage for basic web design but I heard that
Dreamweaver is much better. I think I will get one soon!

I am able to put up an index page. Not bad for a newbie! I need to gather content and pictures fast. I am not sure how long I'll take to put up a fully working site but I'll try my best.

Web Hosting and domain

During the internet marketing course, we were told that some web mastering knowledge is required. As such, I have just brought a domain from GoDaddy and intend to host it at HostGator.

GoDaddy advertised their .com domain price as US$9.99, but the price actually came up to US$30.00 after registration fee and private registration service. During the checking out process, I was bombarded with all kind of upgrades. They just want you to spend!
I think I'll not buy from them again!

The hosting fee at Hostgator seemed affordable at US$9.90 per month. If you make a one time payment for 2 years of hosting service, you will pay less. About US$7.90 per month. I am not sure if I'll use their service for 2 years and therefore I choose to pay on a monthly basis.

I know very little about web hosting and html, hence I think it is going to be a big challenge when I start using the cPanel.

If you do a Google search on the keywords ‘make money’, do you know how may leads there are? Well over 6 millions! Which one is should you choose?

I did some research and found that there are many ways to make money online, only some of them have good earning potentials. One of them, I suggest Internet Marketing as the best way to make money online.

Based on my finding, I signed up for a course on ‘internet marketing’ at the ITE. This is a 3 hours per week course for 6 weeks. I have just finished 2 sessions and I must say that I have learned so much that I am convinced that there is money to be made online.

On the other hand, internet marketing can be so dangerous. You may lose money if you do not have proper knowledge and guidance and you need to learn everything right from the basics. Once you get the core concept right, internet marketing should be a very profitable way of creating income from the internet.

You if are new to internet marketing, always be very careful. Never fall into the hype of websites that claim "be rich overnight" and "make money while sleeping" because they are scams. You will not be rich overnight through Internet Marketing. However, with little hard work and professional guidance you can certainly make money online easily within a short span of time. To be a successful Internet Marketer you need a professional program that teaches you to earn money online right from the basics.

Making money by trading from home – FOREX

Forex is so popular these days. I am seeing a lot of forex advertisement lately.
Banks, brokers and traders are out in full force trying to get people to trade.

Courses and seminars on how to ‘make money trading forex’
can be seen everyday on the newspaper. Is there easy money?

The internet has created an opportunity for anyone with a

PC and broadband to trade in forex. Simply sign up with any bank/broker that
offer online forex trading and you can start trading within a few days. You can
make a lot of money but can also make you lose a fortune too.

I do trade on forex once in a while. I find that it is not

difficult to make some pocket money but my advice to all, if you want to trade
in forex, do your home work first!

Forex trading is very speculative and surely not suitable

for the faint hearted.

Money talk - Inflation

Everyone is talking ‘inflation’. But what is inflation? In simple term, inflation is a rise in the general level of price over time. This also means that the purchasing power of money is slowly eroding. While the rich maybe not feel the pinch, the poor is definitely struggling.

A bowl of cooked white rice now cost $0.50. That’s a whopping 60% increase as compare to 2007. Cost of living is skyrocketing and seemed no sign slowing down any time soon. Are we facing a shortage epidemic? Or, is it because of speculation?

The rich will tell you, buy gold, buy stock, buy mutual fund…etc. Does it help? How much extra cash do you have to hedge against inflation? High inflation is here to stay for now. What should we do to flight inflation?

As a matter of fact, there is nothing much you and I can do about inflation. But we must take inflation into consideration when making any financial decision. If you plan to retire within 20 years with 1 million dollars, then you better raise your target higher to 1.8 million.

If you still have money in the bank right now, go look for another bank which pay you higher interest rate. I know saving is a not a wise choice, but it is better than spending all your money.

Stop spending beyond your needs. Look for opportunities to make more money and improve cash flow. When you have spare cash, you can invest.

Pay off your debts. Take the highest one first and start making multiple payments. If the payment is $200.00 a month, see if you can cough up $400.00 a month. If not, at least increase your payment.

Selling on ebay

Selling on ebay proved to be one of my most successful business. Few years back, a good friend of mine told me about ebay. He was doing quite well and making good income at that time and he encourages me to try. I did just that!

Selling on ebay for beginner can be very tough. There are lots of things to learn. From sourcing products to listing, selling and shipping, you have to know everything! I begin by reading books about 'selling on ebay'. One advantage of selling on ebay is that you can work from the comfort of your home.

Ebay has changed quite a lot from the time I started selling. The world's biggest online auction site is getting crowded and competition is fierce. There are more sellers than ever before and profit is dwindling. Selling on ebay is less attractive now as compare to few years back.
Other than intense competition, ebay has increased their 'fees' many times. (You need to pay 'listing fee' and 'final value fee' when you sell on ebay). Another cost to consider is 'Paypal fee'. (Fee to pay when you receive payment)

So much to pay and so little return, maybe the time is right to leave ebay and starts searching for another business opportunity.

Searching for the right business opportunity

It is not easy being a self employed. I tried all kind of business. Some are profitable and some not. Some of the stuff that I tried:

1) Gaming business (failed)

2) MLM – (failed)

3) Beauty Salon business (failed)

4) Selling calling cards (too little profit)

5) Heat Insulation and sound damping business (didn’t take off)

6) Buying and selling of 2^nd hand computers (make some profit)

7) Selling in ebay (decent profit)

8) And many more…..

After so many failed experiences, most would have given up and look for a job.

You will find the right business if you keep searching.

When you think that you have found the right business, do extensive research, set your goal, make a plan, and take massive action to make it happen!

MLM - Business opportunity

Have you read the book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kyosaki? The book recommends MLM (multi level marketing or network marketing) business as a great opportunity that built passive income.

Everyone in Singapore was talking about MLM in 2002. That was the year when Singapore amends its law and allows MLM. Well, I joined them.

MLM is truly one of the best business opportunities. Imagine earning a passive income monthly and not worrying about paying any loans and debts for your car. Imagine money keeps coming non-stop even if you are sleeping. How nice? Well, you need to put in a lot of effort to make it happen. After trying out MLM for about 2 years, I finally give up! It’s tough!

Although I did not make it in MLM, I learn a lot from this business. The experience from MLM opens up my mindset. I told myself that there must be ways and business opportunity out there. Surely, working for someone is not an option.

When you have no money and no direction, life became meaningless. I went through some of the most difficult times of my life while searching for the right business opportunity. How can I make money being a self employed? Maybe I should drive a taxis!

This is my first blog and I must say it is one of the most difficult task that I do online.
Why? Because I hate writing! I cannot imagine myself blogging and posting it for the world to read. Why am I blogging? Well, the internet gurus says that blogging is creating business opportunity.

It is estimated that there are one billion internet users worldwide. If there are so much traffic, how can we not find business opportunity online? Traffic = Money!

I have been working from home for many years and I spend a lot of my time online.
It seems that the more I know, the more I don't know. Well, blogging should be the way to go in the modern internet age.

I hope it is not too late to start a blog. I want to share the things I know and learn from others the things I don't know.
